Tottenham Hotspur full-back Joao Souza has be spotted arriving in Portugal to finalise his move to FC Porto on loan with no option to buy.

The 20-year-old was only signed by Tottenham towards the end of January this year after tabling two bids, the second of which was worth a total of €15m.

He was handed his debut in February against Manchester United, earning praise from then manager Thomas Frank, who felt that the 20-year-old ‘did very well’.

However, Souza was only able to add three more appearances to his name before the season ended and is now set for a temporary departure to gain more first-team minutes.

Last season’s Portuguese champions Porto have identified the Brazilian as the right candidate to strengthen their full-back position.

They have agreed a loan move with Tottenham for Souza and now, Souza has landed in Portugal to sign on the dotted line.

He was recorded arriving at the airport by Portuguese journalist Sebastiao Sousa-Pinto, as he closes in on moving to Porto.

The 20-year-old will hope that the experience he gathers with the Portuguese champions will stand him in good stead for the future.

Souza has been highly rated and back in 2024, Chelsea explored the opportunity to sign him amidst interest from other European giants.

Tottenham have been left short of options in the left-back position following the departure of Djed Spence for Inter Milan.

They do have new signings Andrew Robertson and Destiny Udogie as options on the left side of the defence, while Ben Davies and Micky van de Ven are also capable of slotting in.

Roberto De Zerbi is a big admirer of Souza and will keep a close eye on how he does in Portugal, with the lack of an option to buy a clear sign Spurs are still planning for him being part of their future.
