According to Nosso Palestra, Palmeiras forward Vitor Roque will undergo surgery on Friday after sustaining a left ankle syndesmosis injury against Jacuipense on 23 April at Allianz Parque in the first leg of the fifth round of the Copa do Brasil.
The club’s number nine has been undergoing preparatory physiotherapy since late last week to ease the procedure.
Palmeiras believe the issue is similar to the one suffered by Piquerez while playing for the Uruguay national team. The club do not release recovery timelines, and the expectation is that Roque will return after the World Cup.
The injury followed a strong challenge by Vicente Reis on the right flank. Roque immediately signalled for a substitution, received treatment on the pitch, then was taken off on a stretcher. Luighi came on in his place.
The Jacuipense tie marked Roque’s return to Palmeiras’ starting XI. He had been absent since the Paulista final in March, treating an injury to the same ankle.
