Vladimir Smicer will be there as Slavia Prague meet RC Lens in the Champions League on Thursday, kick-off 21:00. The same fixture transformed his career 31 years ago.
The 53-year-old returned to Prague on Monday after tackling the climbs of Madeira and could not miss the reunion. According to L'Équipe, he spoke of his enduring affection for Lens at Eden Arena on Wednesday afternoon.
Slavia are the club that brought him through and where he finished his playing days, across 1992-1996 then 2007-2009, totalling 127 matches and 33 goals.
Lens adopted him between 1996 and 1999, during which he played 120 matches and struck 22 goals, before he moved on to win the Champions League with Liverpool.
The former Czech playmaker won 80 caps and scored 27 goals for his country. He still feels at home there.
