‘Want to stay for the rest of my life’: Vinicius issues update on Real Madrid contract situation | OneFootball

In a little over a month, Vinicius Jr. will be entering the final year of his contract at Real Madrid with still no agreement over an extension.

Indeed, the 25-year-old superstar’s current deal expires in 2027 and despite talks being held, an agreement over an extension is still far from being finalised.

Vinicius comments on renewal situation

Speaking on CazeTV (h/t AS), Vinicius provided an update on the situation about his contract renewal with Real Madrid.

The Brazilian international made it clear that neither he nor Los Blancos were in a hurry to resolve the situation and that there is complete mutual trust between himself and club president Florentino Perez.

“I have a contract until 2027; I have to talk to Real Madrid, and Real Madrid has to talk to me. Real Madrid is calm, and I’m calm. The president trusts me, and I trust him. We just have to wait.”

The winger then made it clear that he intends to stay at the club for a long time, even more so now that he will be one of the captains of the team.

“I’ve never imagined myself away from Real Madrid. I cherish every minute I’m here because it’s my dream club. Now I’m one of the captains, and that’s very important. I want to stay here for the rest of my life,” he stated.

Vinicius on the criticism he faces

During the interview, Vinicius also touched upon Real Madrid’s performance this season as well as the criticism he has faced over the course of the campaign.

“It’s been a very difficult season. We started well, with a gap between us and Barça, but then we started losing and drawing games we shouldn’t have. We lost confidence and Barça kept winning,” he admitted.

“It’s the first time I’ve gone two seasons without a win; we failed. We have a team that can win next year. Real Madrid always comes back. My first year was also very difficult, when Cristiano left.”

Regarding the criticism he faces, the Brazilian added: “When I arrived at Real Madrid, everyone said I wasn’t going to play, then that I wasn’t going to score a goal, then that I wasn’t going to win, and in the end, I always overcame all the criticism. 

“They said I was expensive because I cost €45 million, and in the end, I was a bargain considering everything I’ve achieved. The president and the fans adore me.”
