John Pelling has been working with Albion on PSR and wider finances. His name came into focus after Monday’s reports alleging an Albion PSR breach.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, he arrived in the autumn and worked in the background to position the club for its 31 December accounts submission and thereafter.

Armed with a degree in industrial economics, Pelling began at KPMG UK before moving into football in the 1990s. He became Nottingham Forest’s finance director in 1998, remaining until 2013. That 14-year spell included Forest dropping to the second tier and struggling to return.

He then spent two years with Bristol City, first heading the academy before a little over a year as chief executive. A subsequent 10-month spell followed at Bolton Wanderers as head of finance.

Pelling joined Stoke City in 2017 as head of finance, spending eight years there and playing a major role in steering the club through PSR while sitting on the senior management committee. He also served on an EFL working group debating rule changes many hoped would take effect this summer, plans set back due to Manchester City’s legal challenge.

He is regarded as an expert in navigating PSR.
