Palmeiras are planning to secure fresh deals for centre-backs Murilo and Gustavo Gómez, including pay rises and two additional years. According to Globo.com, the club want to keep their first-choice pairing together.
After signalling a renewal for Murilo, the club have also approached Gustavo Gómez’s representatives to open negotiations. Both are under contract until December 2027, and cordial relations with their camps underpin optimism over a positive outcome. If agreed on that basis, Gustavo Gómez would be 36 in the final year, with Murilo 32.
The push comes as Alexander Barboza arrives from Botafogo for about R$ 20 million. The defender is already training at the Academia de Futebol and could make his debut after the World Cup.
Gustavo Gómez and Murilo have been a bedrock of recent Palmeiras success, lifting eight trophies together. Their haul includes the 2022 Recopa Sudamericana, Paulista titles in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026, Brazilian league crowns in 2022 and 2023, and the 2023 Supercopa do Brasil.
Beyond Gómez, Murilo and Barboza, Palmeiras also have Benedetti in central defence. The 19-year-old, who is 1.97m tall, is highly rated, has drawn overseas interest and may leave.
Koné is viewed as one for the future, having recently joined first-team support sessions and been named in the squad for the win over Chapecoense, the club’s last game before the World Cup. Palmeiras do not want to part with regulars and, after signing Barboza, have no major priority for the window, though Danilo Santos, a Brazil international midfielder, remains of interest.
