Record-breaking teenager Jerome Abbey has signed his first professional contract with boyhood club Wolves, according to ExpressAndStar.com.

He became Wolves’ youngest-ever Premier League player when he debuted against Burnley in May, aged 16 years and 250 days. The agreement comes just days after his 17th birthday.

The England Under-17 international joined Wolves aged six, signing schoolboy terms at nine. He rose through the ranks and was fast-tracked to the first team last season while sitting his GCSEs.

Abbey follows brothers Jed and Jez in progressing through the academy. His outing at Turf Moor also made him Wolves’ second-youngest player on record, behind Jimmy Mullen in 1939.

He missed the start of the under-21s’ campaign with injury, underwent minor surgery and is now nearing a return to action.

Academy director Jon Hunter-Barrett said Abbey has been with Wolves for years and praised his calm, consistent character shaped by a strong family background. He added that exposure to the first team has helped him mature and that young players must bring those lessons back. Hunter-Barrett also stressed the difficulty of retention across the country and credited Wolves’ academy staff for providing clear progression.
