Wrexham suffer injury blow but also receive double boost | OneFootball

Phil Parkinson has confirmed Max Cleworth will be sidelined for around two months after suffering a hamstring injury in Wrexham’s 1-1 draw with Burnley.

The 24-year-old defender was forced off during the first half on Tuesday.

“He overstretched the ball in a bit of a tangle and he just overstretched his hamstring,” Parkinson said.

“It is a bit more serious than we first thought, so he’s going to be eight weeks out.

“We’re frustrated for Max because he’d come back into the team and did really well but that’s what we’ve got a squad for,” he added. “We’ve got the players to make sure it won’t hinder us too much.”

There was positive news ahead of Friday’s trip to West Ham, however, with Josh Windass available after scans showed his calf problem against Burnley was only the result of a knock.

“I think everyone’s got to remember with Josh, he’s almost having his pre-season within the season because he didn’t play a single minute in pre-season,” Parkinson explained

“He got 60 minutes first game, 45 (against Burnley) and he had a slight problem when he got whacked on his calf,

“It is only a whack, we’ve had that scanned so that’s really positive news for us.

“We’ve also got to manage his minutes as well and make sure that we get him right to where we need to be because he’s a very important player for us, a player producing real quality moments as he showed last year.”

Ben Sheaf is also set to travel after recovering from a calf injury which has prevented him from featuring so far this season.

“Ben’s back in the squad. We’ve put him into it,” added Parkinson.

“I wanted to give Ben this week, he’s had a terrific week on the training pitch and he’s ready to be included, and will travel down with us.”
