The WSL returned with leaders Manchester City dropping points away from home while there were important wins elsewhere.
Before the international break, Aston Villa shipped seven goals to Tottenham Hotspur so there was little hope given for them to keep a clean sheet at home to the league's top scorers.
However, that's exactly what Villa did as they frustrated the league leaders in a goalless draw to claim a point and relieve pressure on Natalia Arroyo.
Those points dropped by well give the chasing pack of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal some hope until the end of the season. Indeed, the Gunners dispatched London City Lionesses 2-0 thanks to goals from Olivia Smith and Stina Blackstenius.
Arsenal have two games in hand over the league leaders, win those two and they would only be five points behind City.
It was also a good day for the two Merseyside teams. Everton recorded an impressive win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, defeating Spurs 2-1 with Kelly Gago scoring an 86th-minute winner.
In the other game, Liverpool put themselves clear of the relegation play-off zone with a 2-0 win over Leicester City thanks to goals from Beata Olsson and a Ceri Holland penalty.
