Chelsea were dreadful in the first half against Nottingham Forest and should have been behind in the game.
They improved a lot in the second half, but a lot of that improvement came because they simply took the lead and broke the home team’s spirit. The Blues have a lot to thank winger Pedro Neto for. He created the first goal then scored the second shortly after, changing the course of the game in an instant.
Pedro Neto whips in a low free kick.
It’s no surprise he’s the top rated player by WhoScored from the game with an impressive 8.9/10. Only Reece James with an 8.5 is coming close to that.
Nobody in Blue took more shots or had more touches in the opposition box than Neto. He created 4 chances and played 2 passes into the final third. 3 of his 4 crosses were accurate, and one was perfect for Josh Acheampong to head in for the opening goal.
There were some doubts about whether Neto would play today because of an injury from international duty with Portugal – thank god he did.
Now we need to give him a break in midweek so he’s fresh to face Sunderland next weekend.
You can see his attacking stats in the table here:
Enzo Maresca left Wesley Fofana out of the squad today which generated a few questions. The boss tried to answer them in his press post game, but ended up leaving us with more questions than answers.
The good news is that it was apparently not injury related, and he should be playing on Wednesday night when we face Ajax in the Champions League. We picked up a big 3 points in the Premier League today, we need another 3 in Europe in that game.
