Abdoul Koné signs for RB Leipzig, to finish season on loan at Reims | OneFootball

Abdoul Koné has signed for RB Leipzig and will complete the season on loan at Stade de Reims. The 20-year-old French defender will move to the Bundesliga club at the end of the current campaign.

According to L'Équipe, he has agreed a contract running until June 2029 in a deal worth €21 million including bonuses. The transfer was finalised on Thursday after a swift trip to Germany on Wednesday.

Reims insisted on a loan-back as a condition of the agreement, aiming not to weaken their push for promotion to Ligue 1. He will therefore continue playing under the Champagne club’s colours for the remainder of the season.

Leipzig have a clear eye for young French defenders, previously recruiting Mohamed Simakan, Castello Lukeba and El Chadaille Bitshiabu.

Koné, who came through Paris FC’s youth ranks before joining Reims’ academy, has enjoyed a strong first half of the season in Ligue 2.
