After joining the Club from AFC Bournemouth in August 2020, Ake went on to make 177 appearances across six sterling seasons with the Blues.

The defender’s extensive trophy cabinet at City totals 12 honours and comprises four Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, one FIFA Club World Cup, two FA Cups, two League Cups, Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup during a memorable career in Manchester.

Injury issues hampered his first two seasons but he still contributed as the Blues won back-to-back Premier League titles in 2020/21 and 2021/22 as well as the Carabao Cup following Wembley success over Tottenham.

The Dutch international was a crucial part of the historic Treble-winning side of 2022/23, playing 41 times across all competitions.

That included star turns at left-back throughout our successful Champions League run, including the unforgettable night in Istanbul as City won the elite European competition for the first time in our history.

He backed that up with another iconic season in 2023/24, playing in the final of the both the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA World Cup to top off 12 months like no other, with City the first side from our shores to lift the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in the same calendar year.

Ake followed that up later that season as City were crowned 2023/24 Premier League champions, becoming the first men’s team in the history of English football to win four top-flight titles in a row.

He helped City defeat rivals and neighbours Manchester United in the 2024 Community Shield before struggling for fitness in the 2024/25 season as the Blues finished the campaign in style to qualify for the Champions League for a 15th straight season.

Ake helped City win two major trophies in his final campaign at the Etihad, starring in the final of the Carabao Cup as the Blues defeated Arsenal before our triumph over Chelsea in the FA Cup.

A trustworthy and calming presence at the back, Ake also contributed at the top end of the pitch with 10 goals.

“It’s been a privilege to represent Manchester City over the past six years and I’m so grateful to have been part of a special team,” said Ake.

“I’ve grown so much here – as a player and a person and I’m thankful for the time I’ve had at the club.

“I’ll always cherish the memories, particularly of winning the Treble, being part of all four Premier League titles in a side that made history and triumphing in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in my final season at the Club.

“While I’m moving on, I’m very proud of everything we’ve achieved together and City will always be special to me.”

Director of Football Hugo Viana added: “There’s no doubt that Nathan has been a key part of our success over the past few years.

“Whenever he stepped onto the pitch, he always gave everything as well as being hugely dependable for the team. He’s also shown versatile qualities – arriving as a centre-back but excelling at left-back including in our Treble-winning season of 2022/23.

“At the training ground, he was an outstanding, model professional who set high standards for everyone around him and this has no doubt contributed to the environment that we have now at the CFA.

“We would like to thank Nathan for his many contributions and we wish him the very best in his next chapter.”

Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish Nathan all the best for the future.
