Ruben Amorim has vowed that his Manchester United side will be much improved when he has players back from injury and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
United slumped to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford against bottom club Wolves, with Joshua Zirkzee’s opener being cancelled out by Ladislav Krejci’s equaliser.
Amorim was without Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Mathjis de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Mason Mount through injury for the game, and Bryan Mbeumo, Noussair Mazraoui and Amad who are at AFCON.
“I’m really confident,” Amorim insisted after the game, however. “We just need to recover all the players and I’m really confident.
“I don’t know what is going to happen until the end of the season but I’m really confident when we recover all the players that we are going to be a strong team.
“There is no doubt in my mind.
“I think we are in a situation where we have a lot of players out at the same time.
“Of course when you play Casemiro and Ugarte in the middle, you know it’s different when you have Kobbie Mainoo or Mason Mount or Bruno Fernandes.
“We just need to recover our players, the players from AFCON to return, and then the fluidity is going to be different.
“But again, we won the last one and today we could win with the players that we have. We had a lack of fluidity, quality and creation of chances, then we suffer a goal from a set-piece and we are tall in this moment so these details are important to win games in difficult moments.”
Asked if any of his injured players could be back for the next game against Leeds, Amorim said: “I don’t know, I have to check. I’m not going to risk anyone, to lose them for one month or two months.
“We will try to invent solutions. Again, let’s see, and we will try to win the next one with no risks for the players.”
