Ancelotti’s decision stirs Vasco, star player’s name appears on shortlist

Backstage at Vasco is bustling this Monday (3). Goalkeeper Léo Jardim is on Carlo Ancelotti's preliminary list according to journalist Leonardo Baran. The coach of the Brazilian National Team will announce the final roster for friendlies today.

Close observation at São Januário

The news comes right after a distinguished visit to the stadium. Ancelotti and Rodrigo Caetano, Executive Coordinator of the CBF, were at São Januário. The two, along with the entity's president, Samir Xaud, watched from the stands the match between Vasco and São Paulo on Sunday (2).

The duel was part of the 31st round of the Brasileirão. Therefore, the presence of the technical committee served as the last in loco observation. The Italian coach monitored players from both teams before finalizing the list.

Four Vasco players monitored

On Vasco's side, four names were on Ancelotti's radar. Besides Léo Jardim, Paulo Henrique, Philippe Coutinho, and Rayan were observed. The first two are also on the preliminary list. Midfielder Marcos Antônio from São Paulo was also evaluated by the committee.

Despite the preliminary list, Jardim's final call-up is uncertain. Paulo Henrique, on the other hand, has a good chance of returning. He scored a goal in the friendly against Japan on October 14.

Still, Léo Jardim is not a newcomer to the Brazilian National Team lists. The goalkeeper was already called up in March 2024. At that time, the coach was Dorival Júnior.

The current friendlies will be against Senegal (11/15) and Tunisia (11/18). The Brazilian National Team's preparation begins on the 10th. The training sessions will take place at Arsenal's training center in England.
