Mikel Arteta will sit down with the Arsenal hierarchy next week to review this season and create a plan to end the club’s trophy drought.

Arsenal hold performance reviews every two months and Arteta has revealed the latest one is due to take place after the final game of the season against Southampton on Sunday.

Arteta has revealed how the meetings are of a collaborative nature, with both he and the club’s hierarchy giving each other feedback.

Arsenal missed out on their attempts to win major silverware during the current campaign, and both Arteta and the club will use this next performance review to create a plan that will hopefully end that five-year wait next season.

“Our performance review goes every two months,” said Arteta. “That is the way we do it. Then we will see next week here with everybody that is involved.

“We will do everything that we planned and what actually happened. I will take all that and go to Spain, somewhere very quiet, and start to go through that with some ideas that I already have, with some learnings that I already took.

“It is about putting that into a plan, into a vision that you can straight away, immediately and as quickly as possible, start to pass into all the staff - so everybody is aligned and ready when they walk through that door to go and pursue the objectives that we have.

“That is the culture that we have created. Do it, do it in a respectful way. Give arguments, make sure that the context that you are saying it is not for your own benefit, but is for the benefit of all of them.

“Then bring solutions, not the problem. If you bring a problem, bring solutions to that problem because if not we just bulk in problems.

“So do that work, find it and then find a solution immediately and we can share it and we can make the right decision after that.

“But I really enjoy it, it is phenomenal, the atmosphere that we have in there, the work. Those moments are one of the best in the season.”

Arsenal have one final game this season, which is a trip to Southampton on Sunday. After that, Arteta and his players will have some time off before meeting for pre-season.

The Arsenal manager will use the time to “recharge” and “disconnect” from what has been a busy campaign.

“I enjoy it (time off) because I know that I have given my best or very close to my best and I have put all the hours, efforts,” he said.

“I have been honest with myself, I have been honest especially with the staff and players. I do have this feeling at the end of this season.

“We still have one more game to go and hopefully that [feeling] will remain after Sunday. And after that, I think we all deserve as well to recharge, to think about other things, to give time to our families, our friends and disconnect a little bit from this world.

“But there is always that connection constantly because the phone is going to be on because a lot of things happen in a football club that you have to pay attention to. But hopefully I will enjoy it a lot.”
