In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that Arsenal were ready to entertain offers for Gabriel Martinelli this summer. It has been revealed that the Gunners were demanding a fee of £60m for the Brazilian wide player, but a transfer failed to materialise for him in the recently concluded transfer window.
Martinelli struggled to find consistency at the North London club in the previous campaign but managed to put in a run of productive displays for them on the left flank. The Brazilian talent played in 51 matches for the Gunners last season, scoring ten times and picking up six assists in multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old deserves some credit for averaging 2.16 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He kept 43.6% of his attempts on target. Martinelli was a bit untidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making just 71.4% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).
Martinelli’s current contract at Arsenal will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, Arteta might consider cashing in on him next year or else risk losing him on a free transfer the year after.

Martinelli is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with it out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and can even engineer the odd chance for his teammates in the final third.
The Brazilian sensation can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals from the left flank. However, he has to find a way to be more decisive in front of the opponent’s goal. Martinelli mainly operates as a left-winger but can also play as a right-sided wide player if required.
Martinelli has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League. On his day, he can still be a match-winner for the Gunners. However, the arrival of Eberechi Eze could see his game time cut short at Arsenal this season.
At 24, Martinelli has his best years ahead of him. Still, Mikel Arteta should consider cutting him loose at the end of this campaign when he will have just a year left in his contract.
