According to Football Insider, Aston Villa will not sell Morgan Rogers in the January transfer window, even though his form has dipped this season. The club made it clear they see the 23-year-old as central to Unai Emery’s squad, and they will not discuss his exit. Rogers joined Villa Park from Middlesbrough in early 2024 after a strong spell in the Championship. He quickly became one of the team’s reliable attacking options. In his debut season, the 23-year-old played 54 matches and produced 30 goal contributions, 19 of them in the Premier League.

The Englishman’s output strengthened Villa’s attack and attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs during the summer. Chelsea were among those monitoring him, yet Villa resisted all approaches, even as financial issues hung over the club.

That stance has not changed, even though Rogers has been below his best this season and Villa’s overall form has suffered as well. Emery continues to back the young forward and believes he can rediscover his spark. The Birmingham side is chasing a European place, and Rogers still has a significant role to play in that pursuit.

Why must Aston Villa resist any temptation to sell?

Aston Villa should stay firm in keeping Morgan Rogers, regardless of any January interest. His numbers from the 2024–25 season highlight his importance: eight goals and 10 assists in 37 league appearances, with an average of 84 minutes per game. Those contributions earned him the 2024/25 PFA Young Player of the Year award and confirmed his rise as one of the league’s top young attackers. Rogers’ ability to play across the front line, create chances from wide areas, and finish calmly makes him vital to Emery’s system.

Profitability and Sustainability Rules matter, but losing such a versatile player would hurt more than any short-term financial boost. With the squad already thin and several competitions ahead, selling him would weaken their push for success at home and in Europe. The club’s stance remains firm, and rightly so.

Interestingly, reports revealed that Aston Villa and West Ham United want Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli, which signals that Emery still seeks reinforcements rather than replacements. Meanwhile, reports revealed that Manchester United secured the signing of Senne Lammens for £18.2 million, despite Aston Villa trying hard to sign the Belgian goalkeeper, showing once more how much Villa want to strengthen rather than lose key figures. Keeping Rogers is the smartest choice for both the present and future.
