Barcelona sporting director Deco has revealed that the club were approached by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City this past summer.
As much came with the latter having set their sights on the signature of a member of the Blaugrana’s backline.
The player in question? Jules Koundé.
Stopper Koundé is for his part of course fresh off a spectacular campaign in 2024/25, which saw the Frenchman establish himself as one of the first names on the team sheet of manager Hansi Flick.
Looking increasingly comfortable in his new role at right-back, the former Sevilla man stood out for his efforts not only on the defensive side of the ball, but also in the final third.
And as alluded to above, such exploits evidently didn’t go unappreciated amongst those behind the scenes at Premier League heavyweights Manchester City.
Speaking during an interview with Mundo Deportivo, as cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano, this week, Barca chief Deco revealed:
“Man City asked us if Jules Koundé was available on the market… and the answer was no. There was no official proposal or any negotiation.”
