Barcelona defender Jules Kounde has once again spoken highly of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe, this time praising his leadership as captain of the French national team.

Despite being rivals in La Liga, the French defender described Mbappe as someone who “inspires respect” and handles the role of captain with ease.

Kounde made these remarks while addressing the media at during France’s training camp. Asked about Mbappe’s role as skipper, he emphasised that the Real Madrid star leads with a natural presence.

“I’ve always thought Mbappe does it very naturally. He’s very present with his teammates, always willing to talk, and shares the responsibilities.

“Because of the type of player he is, he inspires respect and recognition from his teammates. It’s something that comes naturally to him,” Kounde said.

It is worth noting that Mbappe’s captaincy was under debate a year ago, particularly when he missed two consecutive squads for the French national team.

However, Kounde’s words suggest there is no questioning his leadership qualities today.

While Barcelona and Real Madrid remain fierce rivals on the pitch, Kounde has consistently shown respect when asked about Mbappe.

His latest comments follow a pattern, as he has previously lauded the forward’s qualities on several occasions.

Back in April 2024, the Barcelona defender described Mbappe as a player who could change the course of a match single-handedly.

Such praise from an opponent highlights the recognition Mbappe commands, even from those who face him regularly in El Clasico battles.

That said, despite Mbappe’s global reputation and his blockbuster move to Real Madrid, Kounde and Barcelona have managed to hold firm against him so far.

Since his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu, Mbappe has yet to taste victory against the Catalan side, although he has scored five goals in four matches against them, including a hat-trick in a 3-4 loss back in May.
