Barcelona moved a step closer to securing the league title thanks to a hard-fought 4-3 win over Real Madrid this past weekend.

A key highlight of the game was how Barça were able to score four goals against Real Madrid without the services of their star striker and top goalscorer, Robert Lewandowski.

Struggling with fitness, Hansi Flick decided to keep Lewandowski on the bench and put his faith in Ferran Torres, who didn’t disappoint at all.

However, Lewandowski’s recent injury woes have proven to be costly for the Polish international on a personal level, as the striker has fallen behind in the race for the Pichichi trophy.

Lewandowski’s big challenge ahead

The Clasico saw Kylian Mbappe leapfrog Lewandowski in the Pichichi standings, thanks to a hat trick, even if meaningless for Madrid in the end.

Mbappe now sits at 27 league goals compared to Lewandowski’s 25, even though seven of the Frenchman’s goals have come from penalties.

Lewandowski’s absence from key league matches against Mallorca and Valladolid, along with a limited return in the Champions League, has slowed his momentum.

Despite coming back against Inter, he didn’t look fully fit, which led to Flick’s decision to keep him out of the Clasico starting lineup.

But with just three matches left against Espanyol, Villarreal, and Athletic Club, respectively, Lewandowski has a clear mission.

Not only is he aiming to reclaim the Pichichi crown, but he’s also one goal away from reaching a personal milestone: his 100th goal for Barcelona.
