Barcelona 'to consider' move for former Leeds target Josko Gvardiol | OneFootball

Barcelona are considering a summer move for Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol, a player Leeds United came close to signing in 2020. Mundo Deportivo reports that the club are weighing up the deal, a development likely to sting at Elland Road.

That summer was hectic at Leeds as Victor Orta assembled a squad for the Premier League. Gvardiol had broken through at Dinamo Zagreb in 2019/20 and was attracting attention across Europe.

Leeds were strongly linked but he chose RB Leipzig instead. He later made the switch to England with Manchester City.

Should Barcelona advance, the move would see Gvardiol join former Leeds favourite Raphinha at the Nou Camp. The report suggests the club are assessing options for the summer window.

Gvardiol has since said the Leeds transfer was very close. Speaking in 2021, he explained he was in near daily contact with the club but opted for Leipzig amid concerns about adapting to the Premier League at such a young age.
