Blackpool's chances of appointing Ian Evatt take a hit as the search for a new manager continues

Blackpool's search to find Steve Bruce's replacement is still ongoing.

With it now being over 10 days since the departure of Steve Bruce in the dugout at Blackpool, the Seasiders' search for their new boss still remains to be ongoing with plenty of names circling social media as to who would take the reins in Lancashire. One being the newly unemployed former Luton Town manager, Matt Bloomfield.

However, one of the first names on the list to be linked with the job role was, unsurprisingly, ex-Blackpool defender Ian Evatt.

Evatt played for the Tangerines between the years of 2007-2013, and after spending five years at the helm at Bolton before facing the sack at the beginning of the year, a return to management in the near future seems well on the cards for the 43-year-old.

Blackpool came away 2-1 victors in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night against Nottingham Forest U21's under the guidance of Stephen Dobbie. The Seasiders will want to make sure they get the right man for the job through the door sooner rather than later - but that man being Evatt, is becoming increasingly unlikely.

According to The Blackpool Gazette, it is understood that despite being among the list of candidates, Evatt has not been asked to attend an interview for the Blackpool job as of yet, even though the 43-year-old is believed to be open to stepping up to the plate at Bloomfield Road.

Despite it being made very clear by the club up to this point that they're not rushing into a decision as to who their next manager will be, that man being Evatt doesn't seem to be the case.

During his playing days for Blackpool, Evatt made 254 appearances for the club, with highlights including being a part of two promotion-winning campaigns in 2007 and 2010 from League One and the Championship.

As for the current man occupying the job, Dobbie gave an update on the current situation at the club as he said to The Blackpool Gazette: "I’ve not heard any different for this weekend, so whatever the club needs from me, I’m here, and I’ll crack until I get a phone call to tell me anything different."

With it looking like Dobbie will remain in charge for their upcoming clash against Wycombe this coming Saturday, Blackpool fans may have to wait till next week to find out who will be Bruce's replacement for the long-term.

Blackpool may turn to ex-Luton Town manager Matt Bloomfield over Ian Evatt

With the Tangerines having an array of managers on their shortlist to become their new head coach, former Luton boss Matt Bloomfield is the odds on favourite to make a quick return to management after being sacked by the Hatters just over a week ago.

It's believed that Bloomfield as well as former Rotherham boss Leam Richardson, who is also in the running for the job, have both been interviewed by the club.

Blackpool certainly have the talent within their ranks to challenge for those play-off spots, as shown by their impressive season last year. But, if that is to happen, a quick turnaround in form is needed as they currently find themselves in 23rd and 13 points off the top six.

If it was to be Bloomfield who is given the nod by the Blackpool board, the need to hit the ground running would be an understatement. Having impressed in League One last season with Wycombe Wanderers, a replication of that could mean that the Seasiders' goals prior to a ball being kicked could still be achieved.
