Bologna close to appointing Domenico Tedesco as next manager | OneFootball

Serie A side Bologna have bid farewell to Vincenzo Italiano and they are now nearing the appointment of Domenico Tedesco.

The former Belgium manager was most recently in-charge of Fenerbahce but hasn’t managed so far in 2026.

Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that the Rossoblu want to close the deal for the Italian-German. Initial discussions were held yesterday and they were positive enough for Bologna to come close to the 40-year-old’s appointment.

The formal details are being sorted out, with Italiano having departed after an amicable exit strategy was ironed out yesterday.

Move risky but pragmatic

Tedesco has never managed in Italy and he will find himself in uncharted waters in Serie A. Besides, his recent track record is far from extraordinary and he can find himself in a difficult position at a club which is now aiming high.

At the same time, he is known for his flexibility while a focus on the technical ability of players. That somewhat fits in well at Bologna, who have had Italiano and Thiago Motta use a setup which is focused on keeping the ball moving and positional flexibility. This can put Tedesco in good stead and he can have a very reliable foundation to work with.
