Borussia Dortmund begin contract talks with winger Karim Adeyemi | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund have opened talks with Karim Adeyemi over a new contract.

The 23-year-old’s current deal runs until 2027, but Dortmund want to extend it by at least two more years (h/t Sky Germany).

Initial discussions have been held between sporting director Sebastian Kehl and Adeyemi’s new agent, Jorge Mendes.

The Portuguese representative is one of football’s most influential figures, having previously worked with Cristiano Ronaldo and other high-profile clients.

Adeyemi only recently switched to Mendes’ Gestifute agency after changing representatives several times in the past year.

The German international joined Dortmund from RB Salzburg for €30 million plus add-ons in 2022.

His pace and direct style have made him a key figure in Dortmund’s attack, even if consistency has sometimes been an issue.

He has started this season strongly, bagging two goals and two assists in five appearances across the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Manager Niko Kovac has praised Adeyemi’s improved maturity, describing him as more decisive and robust in his play.

Dortmund are keen to reward that progress with a salary rise that could take him towards €7m a year.

That would put him in line with some of the club’s highest earners, such as goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and striker Serhou Guirassy.

However, the club are conscious of maintaining a balanced wage structure and are unlikely to meet the kind of figures often promised by Mendes.

Adeyemif has confirmed he feels comfortable at Dortmund, but he does have ambitions of playing in the Premier League.

Juventus and Napoli have previously shown interest, but Adeyemi turned down their advances to stay in Germany.

Dortmund hope to tie him down to ensure stability before he enters the final two years of his contract.
