Lined up against Angola (0-0) on Monday in the third matchday of Group B of CAN 2025, Egyptian midfielder Mohanad Lasheen picked up an injury and was forced to give up his spot to Mohamed Shehata shortly after the hour mark (64th minute).
The first update provided by the Egyptian Football Federation is quite reassuring for the Pyramids player, who is expected to be fit and ready for the round of 16.
“Radiological exams conducted on Mohanad Lasheen have confirmed that he is suffering from a rib contusion, sustained during his participation in the match against Angola, which ended in a goalless draw as part of the third group stage fixture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Morocco,” the Federation stated.
“Mohamed Abou El Ela, the Egyptian national team doctor, specified that a treatment program will be put in place for Lasheen to get him ready for the round of 16 clash, scheduled for January 5, against an opponent yet to be determined,” the statement added.
Having qualified as Group B leaders, the Pharaohs will face the third-placed team from Group D, which could be Senegal, DR Congo, or Benin.
