According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Celtic proposed a loan for Leeds United striker Joel Piroe, which was laughed off and did not lead to talks.
Leeds are said to prefer a sale over a loan, given PSR and plans to add a targetman. Piroe has suitors at home and abroad but wants to stay and prove himself in the Premier League, with no attempt to force him out.
The idea jarred with the connections between 49ers Enterprises' two clubs. Paraag Marathe is chairman of Leeds and vice chairman of Rangers, so helping a direct title rival via a loan was viewed as bizarre. Celtic could match his wages, but several Championship clubs could too.
Leeds remain active after taking Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton. He was in the squad for the win over Fulham but did not come on after one session with the team. The club want a deal with Wolves for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, expect competition, and PSR could prompt a sale before 30 June.
Piroe is on the fringes and could bring a profit if sold, or be a makeweight if his stance changes. Farke again downplayed signing a centre back despite Jaka Bijol's hamstring strain, with the Slovenian set to miss three to five weeks, saying only a setback would change that. Jack Harrison has travelled to Italy for a loan to Fiorentina, while 17-year-old Harry Gray joined Rotherham United and debuted in a 3-2 defeat by Stockport County.
