Club Brugge are eyeing Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels as a leading option to replace former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who will retire at the end of the season, but any move is viewed as extremely difficult.
Het Laatste Nieuws reports that Brugge want a Mignolet-style profile and are considering top-level, experienced Belgian keepers, namely Sels and Koen Casteels.
A deal for Sels is seen as close to a non-starter, with financial and sporting factors making it hard to tempt a Premier League number one back to Belgium, even with title challenges and the prospect of Champions League football next term.
The 34-year-old has not matched last season’s level, when he won the Premier League Golden Glove, yet he has produced standout saves and recorded nine clean sheets in 31 appearances this term.
Sels will enter the final year of his City Ground contract this summer. Forest have used four goalkeepers this season, with January signing Stefan Ortega providing serious competition for the gloves.
