Corinthians full-back urges response after Libertadores slip, backs striker

This Thursday, the 2nd, Corinthians made their debut in the Women's Copa Libertadores. In a match valid for the first round of the group stage of the competition, the Brabas faced Dragonas Independiente del Valle-EQU at Estádio Florencio Sola, in Banfield, and left the field with a 1-1 draw – the goal for the alvinegras was scored by Gabi Zanotti.

After the match, full-back Tamires spoke to the press in the mixed zone, where she lamented the team's stumble: “It was a bitter draw because we dominated most of the actions in the game. We managed to control, create chances, both in the first goal when we opened the scoring, but we also created more chances. We weren't efficient and ended up conceding that goal at the end. Now we have to move on, keep our heads up so we can play better games during the group stage.”

She also revealed the tone of the post-game conversation in the locker room. “We talked that every game is a final, so we have to be prepared, always think about the opponent we have ahead. That’s what we did today and we knew that, being the debut, it would be a very tough game. We have to stick together, we can’t let our guard down at this moment. There are two more important games ahead that we have to be better in,” she stated.

Finally, Tamires also spoke about Jhonson, who missed some chances in the match: “I haven’t had a chance to talk to her out here yet, but on the field I did say to her: ‘Come on, another ball will come and you’ll score. There will be another opportunity.’ And I think she’s trying. She’s a young athlete, a player who can still help us a lot at Corinthians, both in this competition and in future ones. So, it’s about giving her more and more confidence so she can put the ball in the net.”
