Corinthians beat Peñarol of Uruguay 2-0 on Thursday to draw level with the longest clean sheet streak in the club’s 115-year history. The Libertadores Group E win at Neo Química Arena made it seven successive matches without conceding.
According to Meu Timao, the last times Corinthians reached seven straight clean sheets were between March and April 1978, and between March and May 2014. Fernando Diniz took charge in early April and is unbeaten with five wins and two draws, his team yet to concede.
The current run began on 9 April with a 2-0 win away to Platense in Vicente López in the Libertadores, then a goalless draw with Palmeiras in São Paulo on 12 April in the Brasileirão.
On 15 April they beat Independiente Santa Fe 2-0 in Itaquera, before a 0-0 draw at Vitória at the Barradão on 18 April. In the Copa do Brasil they won 1-0 away to Barra on 21 April at the Ressacada.
Back in the league, Corinthians edged Vasco da Gama 1-0 at Neo Química Arena on 26 April, then overcame Peñarol 2-0 at home on 30 April to make it seven.
If Mirassol fail to score on Sunday at 20:30, in the 14th round of the Brasileirão, Corinthians will set a new outright club record. The team travel to Mirassol for that fixture.
