Corinthians have made an enquiry about Botafogo striker Arthur Cabral, 27, but internal pessimism over affording a deal persists.
Café do Setorista reports initial talks face resistance from president Osmar Stabile, who does not intend to spend now, with the club prioritising loans and free agents.
ESPN states both clubs are discussing terms, and Botafogo could accept if the conditions suit, for example a loan through to the end of 2026.
At Corinthians, signings run through executive Marcelo Paz before reaching Stabile. A proposed move for midfielder André Luiz to Milan was recently vetoed after progress.
In January, Torino offered €10 million plus €2 million in bonuses for Arthur Cabral, but coach Martín Anselmi blocked his exit.
Corinthians previously explored the striker in 2022 and 2024, without agreement, despite the player's wish to join.
He can be registered via Brazil's extra transfer window, open until 27 March, having played in the Campeonato Carioca.
This season he has 12 appearances, one goal and two assists. He broke through at Basel in 2022, struggled at Fiorentina, and his Botafogo form has been modest.
If he arrived, he would compete with Yuri Alberto, Memphis Depay, Kaio César, Pedro Raul, Gui Negão, Vitinho and Kayke.
