AC Milan are reportedly weighing up sensational January move to bring back club legend Thiago Silva, more than decade after he left the San Siro for Paris Saint Germain.

According to La Repubblica, the Rossoneri are studying the possibility of adding experienced authoritative centre back to defence that currently leans heavily on Matteo Gabbia, Strahinja Pavlovic, Fikayo Tomori, Koni De Winter and David Odogu.

With Odogu 19 year old, potentially leaving on loan in January, Milan want fifth senior defender and Silva’s name has surprisingly re emerged as concrete option.

Experience, leadership and familiar face

Silva now 41 still maintains excellent physical level and has played 41 competitive match for Fluminense this year including standout performances at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite his age, the Brazilian centre back remains tactically sharp, composed in build up and natural organiser of defensive lines — qualities Milan believe could give immediate balance to young backline.

The report also highlights the strong personal relationship between Thiago Silva and head coach Massimiliano Allegri, forged during their time together at Milan before the Brazilian’s 2012 transfer to PSG.

Silva is under contract with Fluminense until 30 June 2026 but the possibility of short term agreement has not been ruled out.

Why Milan are considering this move

Milan’s defensive depth has been stretched this season, with rotations and form fluctuations forcing Allegri to rely heavily on Gabbia & Tomori.

A veteran presence — even for half season — is viewed as stabilising solution for side aiming to stay competitive in Serie A & Europe.

A return for Thiago Silva remains only option at this stage but it is one gaining traction inside the club.
