Valencia goalkeeper Cristian Rivero has been handed a three-match suspension after his red card at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Sunday.
The RFEF disciplinary committee imposed the ban under Article 107.2 for improper conduct, defined as throwing a ball onto the pitch from the bench area. According to AS, Rivero was dismissed for tossing a ball to halt a Getafe free-kick.
He will miss the next three league fixtures, against Espanyol, Betis and Real Madrid. Rivero has yet to make his debut in La Liga or the Copa del Rey. Julen Agirrezabala is out with a hamstring injury until March.
As a result, Carlos Corberán has only one of his three first-team goalkeepers available, Stole Dimitrievski. Dimitrievski has moved from understudy behind Agirrezabala to a key figure, with a Copa del Rey quarter-final against Athletic also looming. For cover over those league games, the alternative is Vicent Abril, a Spain Under-20 international.
Article 107.2 prescribes a three-game penalty for this offence, as recorded by the referee. Valencia have not considered lodging an appeal, given there is no legal basis for one to prosper.
