Aston Villa match winner Emi Buendia says he wants to prove that he has what it takes to play for Aston Villa this season.

The Argentinian attacker was linked with a move away from the club this past summer, having spent time on loan at Bayer Leverkusen last season.

But the 28-year-old, who joined Villa from Norwich back in 2021 but has struggled to show the sort of form he did for the Canaries, has had a big impact at Villa so far this season, scoring three goals in his last four games.

His latest came in a 2-1 away win at Tottenham and speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Buendia says he is pleased to be showing what he is capable of.

“From the start of the season I wanted to show everyone that I wanted to play for this team and for this club and I am glad I do it every game,” he said.

After a disappointing start to the campaign, Villa have now won their last five games in all competitions and Buendia also hailed the character of his side.

He said: “It’s such a difficult place to play and a really difficult opponent. At the start of the match they get the advantage, the team showed character to come back and get a win.”
