Barcelona were forced to do it the hard way against Real Oviedo last night at the Carlos Tartiere Stadium as they were once again made to work hard for all three points in the form of a comeback win.

Alberto Reina scored one of the goals of the season to leave Joan Garcia red-faced and handed the hosts the lead on the night – an advantage that lasted even until the half-time break as Barcelona struggled.

Coming out after the hiatus, however, Eric Garcia pulled one back for the Catalans before Robert Lewandowski netted the team’s second to complete the turnaround.

The hosts tried hard to force another equaliser but it never arrived, and the Blaugrana instead ended up scoring the third via Ronald Araujo to set the result in stone.

Barça Universal brings you the player ratings from Real Oviedo 1-3 Barcelona.

Joan Garcia: 6

The goalkeeper who has looked immune to mistakes in recent weeks made his first error for Barcelona as he was caught snoozing and off his line and rightly punished by Alberto Reina who almost scored from his own box.

Did far better in the second-half, returning to his element and pulling off some sensational saves.

Gerard Martin: 6

The left-back’s distribution was decent but he was regularly tested down the flank and Real Oviedo seemed to consistently win the battle down his flank with ease.

Going up against Lucas Ahijado and Haissem Hassan, Martin almost always finished second best and could not keep up with Real Oviedo’s attacks.

Pau Cubarsi: 6.5

Despite having just 22% possession in the first half, Real Oviedo led in terms of xG generated and there was not much Pau Cubarsi and Co. could do from the back.

The youngster excelled with his distribution and passing range, but should have done a bit better to lead by example in the defensive sense. Improved after the break and found his footing.

Ronald Araujo: 7

Araujo started on the back of his impressive performance against Newcastle United, especially given that he did not play a big part against Getafe midweek. His performance, however, was not particularly memorable.

While he did not make any glaring errors, he too struggled to keep up with Real Oviedo’s counter-attacks and did not put up any major defensive actions after 45 minutes.

Ultimately provided the cross that led to Barcelona’s equaliser from the left wing, helping the team score the much-needed goal. Went on to even score the team’s third goal on the night with a great header.

Eric Garcia: 8.5

Garcia was Barcelona’s best defender in the first half, holding the fortress calmly and confidently on the right side and keeping Real Oviedo’s counter-attacks at bay.

Eventually turned out to be the player who levelled the scores for Barcelona on the night as he used his instincts to bundle the ball over the line in a moment of mayhem in the Real Oviedo box after the break.

Pedri: 8

Pedri retained control of Barcelona’s midfield on the night but not as effectively as he usually does. He gradually grew into the game, and once he was in his element, there was no stopping him.

Finished the game with a staggering four key passes in 90 minutes with a pass completion rate of 95%.

Marc Casado: 7

The La Masia midfielder earned the start on the night and did not do too much wrong after taking to the field. His dynamic with Pedri, however was not as defensively solid as it has been in the past as Real Oviedo regularly played through the midfield.

Casado was sacrificed at half-time to bring on Frenkie de Jong and regain more control of the game – a maneuver that worked out well for Hansi Flick.

Dani Olmo: 5

With Fermin Lopez injured, there was little to no doubt that Olmo would start at the Carlos Tartiere and a lot of hope was placed in the Spaniard’s ability to unlock low-blocks.

Olmo, however, could not continue playing with the same momentum that he showed in the last game and again looked off-colour as he failed to create any threat in the Real Oviedo box.

Marcus Rashford: 7.5

The Englishman earned yet another start for Barcelona and did decently playing on the left flank, often looking to use his pace as a weapon and pulling the trigger from distance. Could well have had a brace if not for some extraordinary saves by the hosts’ goalkeeper.

Switched over to the right flank after Raphinha was taken off and continued to do decently, although he could have done better overall in terms of his combination play and decision-making. Earned the assist for Araujo’s late goal, sealing the result.

Raphinha: 8

The Brazilian was one of Barcelona’s bright spots in attack despite not scoring or assisting as he brought much-needed energy and exuberance for the team.

Completed four key passes, had one shot on target, and hit the woodwork once on the night in addition to completing 87% of his passes and 50% of his long balls.

Ferran Torres: 6.5

The Spaniard struggled to make his presence felt against Real Oviedo’s low-block as he barely enjoyed any spaces in between the lines to linger in and create threat. He had two shots on target and forced two saves and even hit the woodwork on one occasion.

Played a big part in Barcelona’s equaliser on the night as it was his unconventional strike that created the mayhem in the box which Eric Garcia capitalised on.

Frenkie de Jong: 8

Came on to replace Casado at half-time and immediately restored control in Barcelona’s midfield slotting in alongside Pedri. His presence saw Real Oviedo see less of the ball and play through the middle with far less effect.

The Dutchman even provided the assist that helped Barcelona take the lead on the night as his peach of a cross landed beautifully for Robert Lewandowski.

Robert Lewandowski: 8

The Polish striker replaced Raphinha in the 65th minute and required just five minutes to make his impact on the game, getting on the end of De Jong’s cross and putting it into the back of the net with an unstoppable header.
