Everton will prepare for cup action in front of a capacity crowd at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time, with Mansfield Town paying a visit on Wednesday night.

The Toffees have hosted 148 different opponents over the 133 years spent playing at Goodison Park, but the clash against League One side Mansfield Town will be the first time the two sides meet head-to-head.

Having beaten Brighton 2-0 last Sunday, the mood in Merseyside is positive ahead of the second round of the EFL Cup. Everton also secured the signing of Tyler Dibling earlier this week but he’s unlikely to feature in this clash.

Everton Team News and Predicted Starting XI

Everton Team News

David Moyes will probably look to rotate his side and keep his bench players sharp with valuable minutes here with one eye on the trip to Molineux to face Wolves this Saturday. Defenders Jarrad Branthwaite, Vitalii Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson are out of contention with injuries, while teenager Adam Aznou could make his official debut here after missing the first two games due to injury.

Mark Travers, signed as an understudy to Jordan Pickford, could also don the gloves for this game, while Tim Iroegbunam, off the back of an impressive performance against Brighton, could start in midfield again, looking to build momentum for the rest of the season.

Dwight McNeil could be due for his first start this season, and there might be minutes for Harrison Armstrong, who came on in the dying minutes of the previous game.

Everton’s predicted starting XI: Travers; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Keane, Aznou; Iroegbunam, Garner; McNeil, Alcaraz, Dewsbury-Hall; Beto

Has anybody else not had their tickets for tonight yet.

Phoned the club, recorded message: “Due to high volume we are not accepting calls today. Phone back tomorrow.”

Rob Halligan 3 Posted 27/08/2025 at 09:44:27

Pete, the box office doesn't open until 10:00 am. That message was from last night.

I'm in the same boat and it's going to be a mad scramble come 10 am.

I've had an email saying payment has been successful and season ticket activated but my season ticket still shows the Brighton game as the next game.

Paul Hughes 4 Posted 27/08/2025 at 09:55:25

Rob, I had the same. Odd, as I had a digital season ticket last year, and specific opposition was never stated on it. So I went to the original email and downloaded my season ticket again.

It updated, and is now showing just as a 'Season Ticket', as I would expect. I suspect that actually stating 'Brighton' was another first game glitch.

Rob Halligan 6 Posted 27/08/2025 at 10:04:54

Pete, they won’t be checking your phone that closely at the wall.

Just flash it at them and walk in.

Liam Mogan 8 Posted 27/08/2025 at 10:10:46

There must be a problem with the tickets as I'm a ST holder and have just received a link to download tonight's separately.

I also received an email thanking me for buying a membership, which is bizarre

Rob Halligan 9 Posted 27/08/2025 at 10:11:31

John, mine is Android and as far as I know there is no workaround.

John Raftery 10 Posted 27/08/2025 at 10:14:10

Rob, yes I’ve got a couple of mates with the same issue.

Pete Cross 11 Posted 27/08/2025 at 10:25:42

Rob just phoned the club again, as before: phone tomorrow.

As a Club View member, I am really getting fed up.

Derek Wadeson 12 Posted 27/08/2025 at 10:28:29

Paul Hughes,

Thank you very much. For 24 hours without success, I have been trying to sort my brother-in-law's old Samsung Android phone.

I followed your instructions and he is now the proud owner of a pass for tonight's Mansfield game.

Ray Robinson 14 Posted 27/08/2025 at 11:15:06

Paul Hughes posted on another thread that, if you go to your original season ticket email and click on the Download the Season Ticket link, it should solve the problem.

In my case, it refreshed the Google Wallet to show tonight's Mansfield game. Hopefully this works for others with an Android phone.

I anticipate chaos and confusion outside the ground tonight if this is a widespread issue.

15 Posted 27/08/2025 at 11:41:43

I did the same as you Ray. Just hope we don't have to re-download before every game.As an aside to tonight's game, I briefly met with John Mac Sny before the Brighton game and he's of the opinion that he has been blocked and banned from TW by Michael Kendrick (don't know if this is correct or not).Anyway he asked me if I would pass on his regards and best wishes to all on ToffeeWeb.It's really great he got to attend our first competitive game at the new ground.

Rob Halligan 17 Posted 27/08/2025 at 11:50:56

Bill, just make sure your phone is fully charged.

After all this palaver, it would just be the icing on the cake to turn up and your phone is flat! 😂😂😂

Neil Roberts 18 Posted 27/08/2025 at 12:04:38

I was moved due to away allocation, hadn't received tickets for tonight.

I rang at 10; after a 45-minute wait, I spoke to some guy for approximately 15 seconds who said they will send them by email now. And sorted! 👍

Neil Copeland 19 Posted 27/08/2025 at 12:15:58

My season ticket is there but it doesn’t show the next fixture. Just a hyphen. Tried various refreshes which sorted the ticket but as I say no fixture shown.

I received an email to say it had been updated though so hopefully ok.

Kevin Naylor 20 Posted 27/08/2025 at 12:16:26

Hope we don't go too half hearted at this as it would be nice to finally win the damn thing.

John Raftery 21 Posted 27/08/2025 at 12:20:40

Up the digital Toffees!

Peter Moore 22 Posted 27/08/2025 at 12:24:18

UTFT. Here's hoping we get to see Dibling off the bench! Maybe I am too optimistic. No pushovers Mansfield, will be like Wembley for them hey. What a magnificent new home we have! 💙No ticket probs at my end, but I am not a STH. Just emailed out and click to send to Google Wallet and jobs a good un. There is a message in the Google wallet that says to access the stadium, just need to unlock the phone and hold to the reader. If this means they don't need to see the QR code but can tell by some other way we have a ticket, not sure how that works, but maybe could be helpful for anyone who has been allocated a ticket but has not been able to see it? No idea if that is a goer or not. Hopefully it works if there are still issues with seeing the ticket despite it being allocated to your phone. Good luck all and UTFT!

Mike Powell 24 Posted 27/08/2025 at 12:43:08

I reckon Coleman will start tonight; if he doesn't, then what was the use of giving him a contact?

We should go all out and try and win this competition, it's the only chance we have of winning a trophy.

We are desperate for a trophy, we have waited long enough for one.

Frank Knight 25 Posted 27/08/2025 at 12:52:38

Probably know the answer to this but is the ToffeeWeb podcast now history? I used to really enjoy it.

John Raftery 26 Posted 27/08/2025 at 12:58:59

Frank, you’ll find it on Evertonia.com.

Raymond Fox 27 Posted 27/08/2025 at 13:47:36

I never know which players I want to be picked in these games. Do I want our best players or the second team selected?

I lean towards the B team and see what happens. If we have to bring on some of our star players to rescue the situation, so be it.

I would hate to jeopardise our League season because of injuries for the chance to win this cup.

Billy Bradshaw 28 Posted 27/08/2025 at 13:48:56

Season ticket just updated, now showing Everton v Mansfield.

Rob Hooton 29 Posted 27/08/2025 at 13:49:34

I reckon we'll see a mixture of the big guns and youth on the bench, so that Moyes can make changes depending on how the game is going - some players need minutes to get their fitness levels up, others will need nurturing and resting when possible.

Hope to see what Aznou can do at left-back, if he's fit.

Rob Halligan 30 Posted 27/08/2025 at 13:49:46

I feel the opposite, Ray. Start the strongest team possible, get the game wrapped up by half-time, then make changes.

No guarantees chasing a game can bring a positive result.

Ashley Roberts 31 Posted 27/08/2025 at 14:05:10

Would like to see Aznou and Armstrong start and hopefully Dibling gets at least 30 minutes.

Hopefully he is fit to start against Wolves.

pete cross 32 Posted 27/08/2025 at 14:05:19

Thanks ToffeeWebers I now have my ticket !!!

Ian Bennett 33 Posted 27/08/2025 at 14:14:20

I am guessing a youthful team:

Travers

AznouKeaneO' Brien Garner or Coleman

IrooegbunamAlcaraz Armstrong

Dibling BarryMcNeil

Bill Griffiths 34 Posted 27/08/2025 at 14:19:41

I called in at the ticket office and was told the problem occurred due to the Mansfield game taking place so close to the Brighton game. They didn't have enough time to do roll over.

I was assured going forward that the ticket would automatically roll over to the next game… I will not be holding my breath.

Filipe Torres 35 Posted 27/08/2025 at 14:39:37

I think Moyes shouldn't rotate, he should put his best team to give them minutes and more time to gel.

It would be a mistake not to do that as team needs to be ready fast, so that it doesn't lose track on the league table.

The only change would be Aznou as he is the only fit left-back, with Garner in Alcaraz's place.

Ajay Gopal 36 Posted 27/08/2025 at 14:54:27

Ian (33), I like your team, and I think it would be enough to beat Mansfield. But Moyes will probably be more conservative. I wonder if Aznou is fit to start?

Ray Robinson 37 Posted 27/08/2025 at 15:02:02

The club has just sent an email outlining the issue with the electronic ticketing and what to do about resolving it. If this is an example of the complexity of going digital, I want my season ticket card back!

Hopefully, just “teething troubles”

Kieran Kinsella 38 Posted 27/08/2025 at 15:22:15

Filipe/Rob

I agree. Strongest team. We do not want to risk the feel good vibe and new stadium aura by putting out a half baked team with the risk Mansfield Town could be the first away team to win at the new stadium.

Mike Hayes 39 Posted 27/08/2025 at 15:30:33

Field the strongest team then when winning make changes - we need to win this bloody thing and be nice to have something to show for the last 30 years 💙

John Raftery 40 Posted 27/08/2025 at 15:35:36

Although managers have usually rotated our squad at this stage of the league cup, we have not lost a second round tie since 2001.

Liam Mogan 41 Posted 27/08/2025 at 15:37:55

The club are now just sending countless emails with downloads for tonight to me!

Amateurs.

Frank Knight 42 Posted 27/08/2025 at 15:48:34

John 26 Thanks

Christy Ring 43 Posted 27/08/2025 at 16:20:48

Our squad is getting stronger and hopefully better still before the window closes, but a few players who aren't match fit should get a start tonight.

Aznou if fit needs game time especially with Mykolenko still out, and Coleman, Armstrong and McNeil should start, also Barry needs more minutes.

Jay Harris 44 Posted 27/08/2025 at 16:50:16

Typical Everton. The majority of the posts are related to admin cock ups. No wonder we ended up with Budweiser as the preferred beer.

Mike Gaynes 45 Posted 27/08/2025 at 16:50:37

Bill #15, thanks so much for the update on John Mc Sr. Great to hear that he was able to attend the game. If it's true he's been banned, it's time to light the torches and launch the rebellion.

I'm very much hoping to see Seamus today. I still love watching him play. But going against the Barry consensus, I want to see Chermiti up top. This is an ideal opportunity to get him developmental minutes.

Rob Hooton 47 Posted 27/08/2025 at 17:56:20

I'm with big Rob H, strong team please then bring on some young lads if we're sitting pretty.

We're starting to get a squad together, so there will be some changes. McNeil should start, I think we should keep him happy and involved as he can cover anywhere from 3 to 5 positions as injuries and suspensions will no doubt occur - he's been our top assist maker in recent years and also knows how to score goals. We've only got Grealish for one season, as it stands, replacing him next summer might be very difficult indeed! He might teach Dwight and others some tricks while he's here.

Christine Foster 48 Posted 27/08/2025 at 17:56:39

Jay, Budweiser, the only beer to give me a hangover whilst I was drinking it, not the following day. Dreadful. I wonder why..

Neil Copeland 49 Posted 27/08/2025 at 18:01:41

The hyphen has disappeared and replaced with…nothing! In fact it doesn’t even show next match on mine now.

Liam Mogan 50 Posted 27/08/2025 at 18:06:23

The big red budweiser advertisement on those interactive boards halfway up the stadium really annoyed me on Sunday.

Neil Copeland 51 Posted 27/08/2025 at 18:12:15

Bollocks, mine now shows next game as Aston Villa! This is despite the fact I received an Autocup scheme email, money deducted via Autocup scheme and another advising I could change my seat if I wanted to.

Piss ups and brewery’s comes to mind.

Liam Mogan 52 Posted 27/08/2025 at 18:15:28

Just play Dibling. Perfect opportunity for him to settle in

Ian Burns 53 Posted 27/08/2025 at 18:29:06

When I am in the UK, Nigel Clough is in the same village (his father was a neighbour) and he has done a good job over in Mansfield.

His team will give us a very good run out tonight. Looking forward to it.

Colin Glassar 54 Posted 27/08/2025 at 18:29:19

Against some cloggers from Mansfield (where is Mansfield, btw?)? I don't think so.

Maybe a 10-minute cameo at the end if we are 8-0 up.

Mike Allison 55 Posted 27/08/2025 at 18:32:29

Absolutely no reason to rotate anything. Players need game time and new signings need to learn to combine. Play the strongest possible team and make it clear that we're aiming to win this cup.

If anything, try Dewsbury-Hall deeper and Grealish at ‘10', get McNeil some minutes and make sure Dibling gets on the field.

Jay Harris 56 Posted 27/08/2025 at 18:34:44

Hey Christine, yes I call Budweiser by another descripition not a beer and you're too much of a lady for me to say but it begins with a P. LOL

Kieran Kinsella 57 Posted 27/08/2025 at 18:35:20

Ian Burns

I didn't realize Cloughie Junior as the manager. He has a history of causing cup upsets with smaller clubs like Burton, and Sheff Utd when they were in tier 3.

Ian Burns 58 Posted 27/08/2025 at 18:36:56

Hi Kieran - let’s hope he keeps those upsets away from BMD!

John Burns 59 Posted 27/08/2025 at 19:26:56

How can John Mac be banned? I also miss Paul Ferry too.

We need a Trump like amnesty for our friends!

Si Cooper 60 Posted 27/08/2025 at 19:54:34

3 games in 6 days at start of season is not ideal for a thin squad with some key injuries. Have to rotate where possible so a good game for the likes of Armstrong, McNeil, Aznou and Coleman if available.Strong bench should then be available if necessary to seal the victory.COYB! Hoping for another rousing performance.
