Unlike the slow and laborious approach seen in the past under the incompetent Glazers, Manchester United, under INEOS, mean business in the market.

Joshua Zirkzee became the first to join, with the Netherlands international coming onboard as soon as the Euros ended. And now, the club are inching closer to signing Lille’s Leny Yoro.

Not many times in the past have the Red Devils managed to beat Real Madrid in a transfer race but the Frenchman, who dreamt of the Los Blancos and were their top priority, has chosen to sign for the 20-time English league champions instead.

The £52 million acquisition is on his way to complete his medical with only final details left to be sorted. However, this incredible piece of business has not gone down well at Everton.

Yoro stunning deal

It is well known that the Old Trafford side tried to sign Jarrad Branthwaite first, submitting two bids with the last one worth £50 million but both got rejected with the Merseysiders holding out for £70 million.

United have refused to play along, and even if they do return with a third bid, it will not reach the Toffees’ valuation. They feel the England international is still relatively inexperienced and hence it is an unrealistic valuation.

And The Manchester Evening News have reported that Everton are surprised with United’s Yoro deal as the 18-year-old is even more inexperienced and does not even have Premier League experience. They are adamant that if a deal for Branthwaite is to be agreed, it has to be for the amount they want.

“Manchester United’s agreement to sign Leny Yoro has only emboldened Everton’s stance on Jarrad Branthwaite. Everton rejected two offers of £43 million and £50m from United for Branthwaite before the club agreed a fee rising to €70m (£62m) with Lille for Yoro.

Everton not happy

“Branthwaite, 21, is valued at between £70m and £80m by Everton while the 18-year-old Yoro is joining United for an initial £52m.

“It is understood figures at Everton are surprised United have agreed a steep fee for a defender three years younger than Branthwaite who is out of contract next year, has no international experience and plays in Ligue 1.”

The Goodison Park outfit feel United have the money but they are trying to lowball them. Unlike the Glazers, INEOS know what they are doing and are operating like a well-oiled machine.

Considering Branthwaite is comfortable playing on the left, and with United’s need for a backup for Lisandro Martinez, a move for the Everton star is likely to be revisited.

But INEOS are still unlikely to accept Everton’s demands. Whether a deal for a lower price can be agreed remains to be seen. United’s approach for Matthijs de Ligt, now that Yoro is on his way, also hangs in the balance.
