We’ve reached the October international break, with 11 games played in the Premier League.

That’s (more or less) the 25% mark in terms of games played, and we’ve got a good picture now of how the league is shaking out. Summing things up on his podcast after Man City blew away Liverpool yesterday evening, Gary Neville had some interesting thoughts on how everything was shaking out.

His focus, of course, was Manchester United, but you can infer a lot about his thoughts on Chelsea from the same statements:

“United should really be thinking that if they can get it right – Tottenham as well but it’s tougher for tham with European games – they should be thinking around top four. They really should, because there’s no one grabbing it at this moment,” Neville said.

“You look at Chelsea, Tottenham, who don’t look sure, Liverpool don’t look sure… it’s there for it’s there for the taking. It’s about consistency.

“After this international break you’ve got two or three months of lots of games, the winter slog. It’ll sort the teams out and you come out of January and see where really everybody is. But there’s a good opportunity for United.”

His belief that Man U can benefit from not being in Europe or the EFL Cup while other teams struggle with those extra games is pretty convincing.

In other news…

Alejandro Garnacho was given big praise for his performance for the Blues on Saturday. He’s made the left wing slot his own and we don’t see him giving it up anytime soon.

Estevao Willian made a big impact in the win over Wolves after coming off the bench, and the pundits on TalkSport were going crazy with their comparisons after the game.
