Gaviões da Fiel backs probe into MP claims, wants Sanchez out

The vice-presidents of Gaviões da Fiel, Fábio Camara, known as Fantasma, and Sergio Barros, known as Serginho, were present at the press conference held by prosecutor Cássio Roberto Conserino, who is responsible for investigating the use of the corporate card for personal purposes at Corinthians, held this Wednesday.

The pair commented on the charges brought by the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MP-SP) involving Andrés Sanchez, the former president under investigation, and Roberto Gavioli, the club's current financial manager who was removed from his position after the case became public.

The accusation against the former president is for crimes of embezzlement, money laundering, and falsification of tax documents. The financial manager, on the other hand, was charged with omission and lack of oversight during Andrés' administration. Just as happened when the VaideBet case came to light, the organized supporters promise to follow the process and pressure the club for punishments for those responsible who, according to them, harmed the institution.

“The impeachment case of the mentioned president (Augusto Melo) was a more institutional matter; we took some actions that led to public outcry. That’s what’s happening here today. The Corinthians nation will apply pressure. Not just Gaviões da Fiel. Gaviões will always fulfill their roles, of oversight and demanding accountability. In this step, we will follow the necessary procedures so that everyone, regardless of who they are, pays for what they did against the institution. The next step for Gaviões is to follow the developments from the prosecutor’s office. There will be a judicial opinion, which is another stage, but our pressure is that the Corinthians public outcry will culminate in our demands. So, automatically this pressure will be applied, whether at Parque São Jorge or in another demonstration,” said Fantasma.

“Regardless of whether it’s a director, president, whoever caused harm must pay. But Gaviões da Fiel’s position has a limit. There’s a step-by-step process to follow. Today, it’s in another sphere. It’s in the prosecutor’s domain. We will follow it, but we will demand accountability, yes. We will maintain oversight, regardless of who it is. There are people more in the spotlight, like former presidents, but there’s also Cori, councilors, the president of the Council, and so on. They, I can say, are on Gaviões da Fiel’s radar. No one will get away. If they show action, that’s one thing. Now, words for words, that’s something very trivial,” he concluded.

Serginho also stated that the organized supporters are monitoring councilors who approved the club’s accounts during Andrés’ administration. Gaviões members also declared that they would pressure Roberto Gavioli and the Corinthians board for his removal from the club, since he was part of the current administration; however, the club itself published an official note confirming that the superintendent is already out until the case is concluded in court.

“Now we have something more concrete, a prosecutor’s charge. Coincidentally, the guy is a Corinthians fan. We saw in the interview, the prosecutor’s outrage. I believe every Corinthians fan feels this outrage. We just saw here (the accusations) about the use of money for clothes, watches, medical insurance, with no accountability whatsoever. Where was the Fiscal Council at that time? Where was the Council that approved Andrés’ administration? Duilio said he hasn’t seen it yet. In other words, things could get even worse than what we’re seeing. Look at the situation Corinthians is in and you’re fighting for power. Another thing, how was the financial director (Roberto Gavioli) there at the time and is still there now? It makes no sense. Gaviões will not stop. It’s a sad day, it’s sad, but it’s a day of hope,” his colleague added.

In an official statement, the Gaviões board took a stricter tone regarding Andrés Sanchez’s situation, demanding his permanent expulsion from the club’s membership.

“Gaviões da Fiel demands transparency and the expulsion of Andrés Sanchez from the membership. Temporary removal is not enough. Internal bodies need to act urgently. This case is yet another warning and reinforces the need for deep statutory changes,” they published on social media.

Through prosecutor Cássio Conserino, the MP-SP stated that there is still no conclusion in the investigations into the administrations of Duilio Monteiro Alves, also pointed out for possible use of club funds between 2021 and 2023, and Augusto Melo. In Duilio’s case, a report from ge.globo presented an expense report totaling more than R$ 80,000 in just 40 days, including luxury hotels and wine purchases.

At the press conference, Cássio Conserino detailed that the charges against Andrés Sanchez, referring to the 2018 to 2020 administration, and Roberto Gavioli were motivated by possible crimes of embezzlement, money laundering, and falsification of tax documents (the latter only applicable to Andrés). According to the investigations, the amount owed by the former president to the club reaches R$ 480,000, considering interest and inflation, with an additional request for 75% of the amount for moral damages.

The process now moves to the courts, with the pair charged. There will be a trial, and only if the charges are accepted will they become defendants. It’s worth noting that returning the money does not exonerate Andrés and Gavioli. The MP-SP also recommends that the political rights of those involved be suspended at Corinthians until the end of the investigation, or that they be removed from the club. Currently, Andrés is a lifetime councilor and Gavioli is part of the board. The club’s Advisory Council (Cori) has even recommended the opening of an internal process against the former president.

The Gaviões da Fiel board was present at the press conference held this Wednesday (15), at the Barra Funda Criminal Court, at the invitation of prosecutor Cássio Conserino. On the occasion, the charge against Andrés Sanchez for embezzlement and money laundering was announced, after proof of the use of Corinthians’ corporate card for personal expenses, such as purchases at jewelry stores, clinics, gas stations, and duty-free shops.

Financial manager Roberto Gavioli, cited for omission and lack of oversight, was removed by the current board shortly after the press conference. According to the MP-SP, he had the obligation to prevent irregularities and prepare internal reports, but failed gravely, contributing to the financial mismanagement that compromised the club’s image.

In addition to the charges, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested reimbursement to Corinthians and compensation for moral damages, as well as investigating signs of ideological falsehood and tax evasion. The investigation will continue with analysis of invoices from the Duílio Monteiro Alves administration and hearings already scheduled.

The next leaders must understand that there is no more room for mistakes. The Corinthians fan is becoming politicized, and many still do not understand this. Fiel is no longer turning a blind eye.

The removal of Gavioli and Andrés needs to be just the first step in the downfall of all those who harmed Corinthians. Members must take action. We cannot wait only for justice: change needs to happen inside Parque São Jorge, with internal pressure and collective action.

What is happening today shows that all of us — competent bodies and fans — need to be united for justice and ethics at Corinthians. It is time to demand action, total transparency, and immediate accountability.
