Hansi Flick defends Barcelona star after win at Real Oviedo | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has moved to launch a stern defence of a member of his squad, on the back of the club’s latest outing.

The player in question? Joan García.

Goalkeeper Joan was for his part of course in from the off once more on Thursday evening.

This came after Barcelona made the trip to the Estadio Carlos Tartiere, for a La Liga meeting with Real Oviedo.

When all was said and done, the Blaugrana emerged on the right side of a 3-1 result.

With 45 minutes on the clock, however, Barca actually found themselves trailing by a goal to nil, and looking in real trouble.

This deficit came owing to a moment of madness on the part of the aforementioned Joan, who, after steaming off his goal line in an attempt to clear danger, passed the ball directly to an Oviedo player.

This came as the first high-profile mistake in the Blaugrana career of the 24-year-old.

Drawn on the incident post-match, though, Hansi Flick, as alluded to above, wasted no time in defending his new no.1:

“Joan Garcia’s mistake? It can happen. It’s a consequence of our game because we want to play the ball out well. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper. It’s football. We came back and that’s the most important thing.”
