Ronald Araujo returned to the starting lineup as FC Barcelona visited Real Oviedo for their last league match. The Uruguayan defender was one of the more notable names in this game as he helped his team get a 1-3 win, not only with his defense, but also by contributing well in the attack.
He not only set up the first goal scored by Eric Garcia, but also himself got on the scoresheet by scoring a header himself in the final moments of the game.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Blaugrana captain also talked to the media after the match, and highlighted some aspects of this game.
“The team always had the calm and tranquility to sink the opponent. The feeling in the first few minutes wasn’t entirely good, with their corners, but the team knows how to deal with these pressures and these moments. In the second half, we were more calm, and well, I’m happy with the victory.”
As was the case with Hansi Flick, Araujo also defended the goalkeeper Joan Garcia after his error led to a goal:
“Joan is very important to us. We know what a great goalkeeper he is and that we were going to turn the game around if we did what we had to.”
Gavi recently underwent surgery and is now set to stay on the sidelines for the next 4-5 months. The Uruguayan defender dedicated this victory to his teammate, who is going through such a difficult period:
“It’s a victory for Gavi; we dedicate it to him. We love him very much and hope he recovers quickly and well. We’re on top.”
The Barcelona captain also ensured that the team is gaining rhythm after the start of the season:
“We’ve just started the season, and the team is eager. We’ve regained the necessary intensity, and I think it’s coming. It’s important to string together wins.”
Lastly, Araujo recognized that it is going to be quite a fight with Real Madrid for the league title:
“They’re a great team with great players and a new coach. It will be a tough league. I don’t know who we’ll be fighting against, but we’ll fight until the end.”
Although he has not enjoyed a lot of consistency lately, this was a highly encouraging performance from Ronald Araujo, and hopefully, he will continue displaying this level for Barcelona going forward as well.
