PSG and Barcelona are set to face off on October 1 in the UEFA Champions League league phase, both riding strong starts to their seasons.

The Paris-based club kicked off their campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Atalanta, scoring twice in each half despite missing Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé.

Meanwhile, Barcelona followed with a gritty 2-1 win at Newcastle United, thanks to a brace from Marcus Rashford. With both sides seen as serious contenders for the trophy, this clash could set the tone for the rest of their Champions League league phase.

Ahead of Barcelona’s LaLiga fixture against Real Sociedad, manager Hansi Flick was asked about rotating his squad.

“We always concentrate on the next match and the next match is Real Sociedad,” Flick said, speaking to the media on Saturday. “After that, we’ll think about PSG.”

Injuries are taking a toll on both squads. Marquinhos is out with a quadriceps issue and is expected to miss the next few weeks, while Doué, Dembélé, and João Neves remain in recovery, PSG’s medical team confirmed.

“Marquinhos felt pain in the later stages of the game vs Marseille,” PSG manager Luis Enrique said. “It’s nothing serious, but we need to be cautious, we don’t want to take any risks. It’s a shame because he’s our captain.”

On the other side, Barcelona will be without goalkeeper Joan García for four to six weeks after he undergoes arthroscopy, ruling him out of the upcoming clash with PSG, according to Fabrizio Romano.
