Heidenheim picked their four points so far in their previous two home games. Against a reshuffled Frankfurt side, the hosts restricted their opponents to half chances inside the first 20 minutes.

However, Dino Toppmöller's side found the net in the 23rd minute. Luckily for Heidenheim, the referee whistled for a foul by Arthur Theate before Elye Wahi's finish. The French striker is still waiting for his first goal for the club he joined in January.

A couple of minutes later, Can Uzun had to be substituted due to an injury. The Champions League participants found themselves a goal behind in the 32nd minute. After some good work by Mathias Honsak and Arijon Ibrahimovic from a counterattack move, Budu Zivzivadze scored his first goal of the season.

Wahi had a chance to do the same late in the half, but he failed to convert from Theate's inviting delivery. The visitors didn't have answers for Heidenheim's aggressive approach in the first 45 minutes.

Frankfurt changed the momentum right after the break with Ellyes Skhiri hitting the woodwork from Ritsu Doan’s set-piece delivery. Ten minutes later, they did found the equalizer through Rasmus Kristensen after a brilliant play on the left wing by Nathaniel Brown.

The all-round defender scored in the heavy defeat to Liverpool, but this is his first league goal of the season. In search of a winning goal, Toppmöller subbed on the in-form Jonathan Burkardt to link up with Wahi in the final third. With only 15 minutes left, Michy Batshuayi replaced Wahi as the visitors try to steal it with a late goal.

Diant Ramaj made a great save to prevent that late in the game before Heidenheim nearly took all three points in injury-time. Marvin Pieringer's header was converted after a woodwork and Michael Zetterer intervention, but the striker was in an offside position.

Frankfurt, who lost their last two Champions League matches 5-1, will now face Napoli away from home before entertaining Mainz. Heidenheim will travel to Leverkusen before the international break.
