Chubut governor Ignacio Torres announced the construction of a synthetic grass football pitch at the Villa Deportiva. The announcement came at the closing of La Semana del Fútbol led by coach Pablo Calderón.
According to SuperDepor.com, the project will allow the Rojinegro to fulfil a long-held aim of securing a new space for activities.
Torres toured Gaiman Fútbol Club’s facilities, joined young players for a kickabout and took a few penalties. He was accompanied by club president Guillermo Krebs, vice Nazareno Videla, Sports Director Noelia Bragoli and Gaiman mayor Darío James.
He received an official GFC shirt bearing number 10 and his name. Calderón also presented him with a Proyecto Argentina 2030 jersey, a programme he is developing with “Vasco” Julio Jorge Olarticoechea, World Champion in Mexico 1986.
Later in the afternoon, former Gaiman Fútbol Club and local football greats took to the pitch, including brothers René and Miguel Calderón, Luis “Puchín” Brunt, Roberto Rowland, goalkeepers Emilio Videla and Marcelino Griffiths, Oscar Vázquez, Darío Gómez and “Caly” Fernández.
Darío Santos and Nelson Pascual did not play due to injuries. Guests from nearby clubs also featured, among them Eduardo Saturnino “Pepe” Castro of Germinal and Javier Rodas of Brown.
