Chiefs coach cagey on transfer plans

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef was tight-lipped when asked about the possibility of the Soweto giants reinforcing their squad in the January transfer window.

Amakhosi finished the year in disappointing fashion, dropping crucial points in the Betway Premiership following two consecutive goalless draws with Chippa United and TS Galaxy, respectively.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Chiefs fell short to Al Masry SC in their group stage opener, before salvaging point at the death against Zamalek SC, which has them sitting in third in Group D.

Now, when pressed on whether the squad needs strengthening to stage a respectable 2025/26 campaign, Ben Youssef kept his cards close to his chest.

“I think all the players have performed very well, we continue to work. We have a good squad, we have to continue to work, if there is recruitment [opportunity] we will discuss with the board,” said the Tunisian mentor.

On the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) break, the former AS FAR assistant coach revealed that the players will be afforded time to rest, but there will be an extra training camp to be scheduled.

“I think we will check the program. We will have both of them for sure, we will have the break and also we will have time to fix [our problems], with our media and after we will share the program of this month about the camp and about the program,” Ben Youssef added.

Chiefs will sign out of 2025 sitting fourth on the Betway Premiership table with 24 points from 13 games and they trail log leaders Orlando Pirates with four points, having played one match more.
