Arne Slot outclassed Roberto De Zerbi

One manager who many Liverpool fans will know during his time in the Premier League with Brighton is Roberto De Zerbi, with the Italian now the manager of Marseille.

He has earned himself a very good reputation, and rightly so, for his attacking philosophy and supporters may not have minded if he took over from Slot should he be sacked, but perhaps not now.

Liverpool comfortably beat his Marseille side on Wednesday night and nullified any of their attacking threat with ease, suggesting that he might not be as good as many thought.

In fact, it was only before the game that Tony Cascarino was signing his praises and highlighting why he thinks Liverpool should hire him if they get rid of Slot, but now the Dutchman will have silenced anyone who agreed with this.

If there was ever a vacancy and De Zerbi was available, I'd know what I would want to do if I was Liverpool," he said on talkSPORT.

"That would be one manager I would certainly look at because he hasn't had the funds and transfer ability to buy some of the best players in Europe and he overachieves with his teams.

"That's what he did with Brighton and he's doing it with Marseille. De Zerbi is very Klopp-like, the way he sets up his team, the way they play. Everything about them is to get goals."

Xabi Alonso is the only man who can replace Arne Slot

Slot certainly has a bit more time left as Liverpool manager and hopefully he can get back on track after that big win in France, but if he is to go, Xabi Alonso appears to be the only manager likely to take over.

He seems destined to manage the club he once played for, with it looking like this could happen in the summer due to recently leaving Real Madrid.

If Slot does go mid-season, though, the Reds will likely make a move for the former midfielder, with his system something that could get the best out of the talented players he would have at his disposal.

His links with Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz only make the move more attractive as well, so forget De Zerbi, it is Alonso or no one.
