Ousmane Dembélé has emerged as the leading contender for the Ballon d’Or following a stellar 2024–25 season with PSG. The French winger was pivotal in the club’s historic treble, helping secure the Champions League, Ligue 1, and Coupe de France.
Dembélé’s stats are equally impressive: 35 goals and 16 assists in 53 appearances. Beyond the numbers, his decisive contributions on football’s biggest stages have solidified his claim as the top candidate for the sport’s most prestigious individual award.
Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal is also in the running, having recorded 18 goals and 25 assists in 55 matches. His performances were crucial in Barcelona winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España, keeping him firmly in contention for the Ballon d’Or.

Even though the Ballon d’Or race is mainly between two players, Mundo Deportivo reports that Yamal has already set ambitious plans.
He’s prepared to host a private party in Paris tomorrow night if he takes home the award, which is why he’s bringing along 20 family members and friends to the ceremony.
Meanwhile, current PSG club chief Luis Campos explained why it’s a no-brainer to pick Dembélé as the winner for this honor.
“Does Ousmane Dembélé have to win the Ballon d’Or? Let me counter your question: If the best player in the league and the Champions League were named Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, would there be any debate?” Campos said on RMC Sport.
“If he doesn’t win the Ballon d’Or, then the voters would clearly not be competent to vote for this prestigious trophy.”
