Manchester United got thrashed 0-3 in the Manchester derby on Sunday, with the defence having a shocker at the Etihad.
While Leny Yoro lost his man for the second, Luke Shaw was responsible for the first goal conceded. The England international has started in all four Premier League games this season.
But his performances have not been up to the mark; however, due to the lack of left-footed experienced options, he remains Ruben Amorim’s best bet currently.
Ayden Heaven remains raw and the head coach cannot afford to throw him into the deep end, especially given the kind of pressure the team is facing currently.
How he must be hoping for Lisandro Martinez to be back. The 27-year-old is currently continuing his rehabilitation from the ACL injury he had suffered last season.
The Argentine has already returned to training on the grass as relayed by The Peoples Person, and is nearing a return to action as per the latest report.
Trustworthy Argentine journalist Gaston Edul has claimed that the World Cup winner is targeting a return to the first team fold in late October-early November.
However, given the severity of his injury, the 20-time English league champions will be careful with his reintegration as they do not want to lose him again.
The defender will also be wary, given this is a World Cup year. But nonetheless, Amorim will be delighted with this development.
“Lisandro Martínez plans his return for late October and early November,” the journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Manchester United will not rush his comeback so that he can recover properly and maintain continuity before the World Cup.”
When the ex-Ajax ace was playing, his brilliant passing ability, and his penchant for carrying the ball proved to be a major weapon for the Old Trafford side.
Hopefully, his aggression can fix the leaky defence, while also helping in the build-up play. His head coach’s future is on the line. Lisandro Martinez cannot return soon enough!
