Köln officially communicated the reason for Jahmai Simpson-Pusey’s omission from Köln’s last home game of the season against Heidenheim. The Englishman was missing from the matchday squad for disciplinary reasons.

"We talked all week about our attitude and how we want to deal with each other. If in the end a player is late, it is also a sign to the team that we have to be consistent with our actions," said interim coach René Wagner.

Joel Schmied comes in the Manchester City loanee’s place as Köln fall to a 3-1 home defeat to the relegation-threatened side. The future of the 20-year-old defender is uncertain as reports emerged this week that Köln are weighing up activating their €8 million purchase option.

"He made a mistake that he hopes will no longer make in the future. We had a good conversation about it,” said Wagner as his comments hinted at Simpson-Pusey’s inclusion for the final game against FC Bayern next week.

The center-back has featured 10 times for the club since his January move. Premier League giants Manchester City ended his previous loan at Celtic to make the loan possible. Simpson-Pusey won the FA Youth Cup and the U21 Premier League as captain of the sides.
