Manchester City Dominate West Ham to Secure Fifth Consecutive Win

Erling Haaland was the star once again, scoring twice as Manchester City cruised to a 3-0 victory over West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium. This win not only extended City’s impressive run to five straight Premier League victories, but it also propelled them to the top of the table, albeit temporarily, with Arsenal poised to reclaim first place later in the day.

Early Breakthrough for Haaland and City

City wasted no time asserting their dominance. Within the first five minutes, Haaland found the back of the net after a swift counter-attack, converting on his second attempt following a save by West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. The early goal shattered any hopes of a resilient start from West Ham, who were under intense pressure throughout the first half.

Despite the quick lead, Haaland’s first-half performance was marked by missed opportunities. In a surprising moment, the Norwegian striker somehow sent a free header wide from close range, after being picked out in the box by a teasing cross. His miss aside, City continued to dominate proceedings, with the visitors struggling to contain their attacking threat.

Tijjani Reijnders Marks His Moment

City’s relentless attack paid off in the 38th minute when Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders doubled the lead. Haaland turned provider, threading a perfect pass to Reijnders, who advanced forward before unleashing a powerful shot into the roof of the net. It was a clinical finish and a deserved reward for Reijnders’ dynamic play in midfield.

West Ham’s defensive vulnerabilities were laid bare, and despite some valiant efforts, they found themselves unable to stop the relentless City machine. The Hammers were under constant pressure, and the gap between them and their hosts only seemed to widen as the game progressed.

Second-Half Struggles for West Ham

As the second half began, West Ham had little choice but to chase the game. Jarrod Bowen, their most dangerous outlet, was presented with a couple of chances but was unable to convert. From a tight angle, Bowen fired into the side netting, and moments later, his attempt from distance was dragged wide of the target.

Despite their best efforts, West Ham were unable to break down the City defence, with the hosts looking every bit the Premier League champions. City’s backline, led by Ruben Dias and John Stones, remained unflappable, ensuring goalkeeper Ederson had little to do.

Haaland Seals the Deal

With the match heading towards its conclusion, Haaland completed his brace, securing a comfortable 3-0 win for Manchester City. After a slick pass from Kevin De Bruyne, Haaland latched onto the ball and slotted it past Areola to ensure all three points. His performance highlighted why he remains one of the most lethal strikers in world football.

For West Ham, the defeat leaves them stuck in the relegation zone, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side struggling to find form. They will need to regroup quickly if they are to avoid a relegation battle come the end of the season.
