Marc-André Ter Stegen ‘to join’ Girona on loan until season’s end

Cadena SER and Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen will join Girona on loan until the end of the season after an agreement between the clubs.

The 33-year-old returned in early December from a long back injury and has played only one match this season. Sidelined since the signing of Joan Garcia in the summer, the Barcelona captain is seeking minutes ahead of the World Cup, which he hopes to contest with Germany.

The Germany international has 44 caps and remains under contract until 2028. The proposed loan would run to season’s end.

The reports add that Barcelona would cover 90% of his salary.

Girona’s proximity to Barcelona has been important, with the player keen to stay close to his family. Only a few details are said to remain before completion.
